WAT is a method for exploring the content of the mind wherein the subject is required to respond to a stimulus word with the first word he thinks of or with one of a specified class of words.

The Word Association Test (W.A.T) method was first experienced by a Swiss Psychologist Carl G. Jung (1875-3961) in 1905. later it was enlarged by Kent and Rosanoff in 1910.
While testing a candidate the Association gives an idea to a Psychologist whether a candidate can perfectly under-stands and initiates or originates new ideas in his mind.
In Word Association Test, there are only 50 words which are to be tested. Each word is kept before a candidate in a printed form on a cardboard. In some cases hand-written words may be displayed. The candidate is given only seconds for each word it as a stimulus.
There is also another way, in which candidate is to indicate his reaction or imaginations in a phrase or group of words.
Candidates are therefore advised that while using a, word as stimulus, not to write lengthy sentences. Meaningful and brief sentences are very helpful, because one can save his ample time. Do not make incomplete sentences.
As the candidate is to use 50 words in sentence in a limited time he must therefore be quick and prompt. Here some examples are given.
- Love - I love my country.
- Atom - Atom is power.
- Knife - It is sharp knife.
- Work - Hardwork succeeds success.
- Flower - The garden s full of flowers.
- Accept - I will accept your challenge.
- Child - This child is healthy.
- Knowledge - Knowledge is power.
- Blood - The blood is red.
- Time - Don't waste time.
